How do you configure settings CS 2?

Guys, I can honestly say that I am not at all satisfied with my current graphics in CS 2. I tried changing the screen resolution from 16:9 to 4:3, as I heard that this could help optimize the image. However, either I have a unique screen, or I am doing something incorrectly. Can you tell me how you configure CS 2 settings so that everything looks decent?
