Arc Raiders: Understanding the Wasp
If you're diving into Arc Raiders, one of the first flying enemies you'll encounter is the Wasp. While it may seem like a relatively simple opponent, there’s more to it than meets the eye. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the Wasp, its behavior, and how to take it down effectively.
What is a Wasp?
The Wasp is a small, thruster-powered drone in Arc Raiders, often found in swarms with other Wasps or the occasional Hornet. These drones patrol the skies, scanning for human activity that could interfere with ARC's operations. Although the Wasp is relatively weak on its own, it can pose a real threat when encountered in larger numbers or alongside other more dangerous enemies.
Wasp’s Key Characteristics
Threat Level: Moderate
Armor: None
Primary Attack: Projectile Volley
Health: 110
Abilities: None
Weakness: Thrusters
In general, most players find that the Wasp is more of a nuisance than a true danger, as long as they’re careful with their positioning and timing. It’s worth noting that the Wasp is not heavily armored, making it vulnerable to focused attacks on its thrusters.
How Does the Wasp Attack?
The Wasp’s primary method of attacking is through a projectile volley, which is preceded by a red targeting laser. It’s important to recognize this warning, as it gives you a moment to react. The Wasp remains stationary while firing its projectiles, which can be dodged with the right timing.
If you’re caught off guard by a volley, you can often mitigate the damage by moving behind cover or into some form of camouflage, such as foliage. Wasps can scan the area for threats, so it’s best to avoid letting them lock onto you in the first place.
Weaknesses: Targeting the Thrusters
One of the easiest ways to take down a Wasp is by targeting its thrusters. These are exposed and unarmored, which makes them an ideal weak point. Most experienced Raiders know that if they destroy two of the thrusters, the Wasp will fall to the ground, and the impact can be enough to destroy it instantly if it falls from a great height.
However, destroying only one thruster will cause the Wasp to fly erratically, making it more difficult to hit. In general, targeting both thrusters at once is the most reliable strategy, but don’t be surprised if you need to adapt if the Wasp becomes more unpredictable after losing just one.
Combat Tips: How to Defeat the Wasp
-
Stay out of sight
The Wasp is constantly scanning the area, and while it may not immediately spot you, it’s best to stay hidden behind cover or use foliage to remain undetected. In many cases, the Wasp will mistake humanoid statues for Raiders, which can give you a bit of breathing room. -
Don’t let it lock on
If a Wasp targets you with its red laser, it will soon fire its projectile volley. The key to avoiding damage is to destroy the Wasp before it has a chance to launch its attack. Focus on the thrusters and take it down quickly. -
Aim for the thrusters
This is the Wasp’s primary weakness. By targeting the thrusters, you can disable its flight capability, forcing it to fall to the ground. This is often the most efficient way to eliminate it, especially if you’re up against a swarm. -
Keep an eye out for additional Wasps
Sometimes, a Snitch will call in additional Wasps from orbit, which can be a real headache for unprepared Raiders. Be ready to deal with more drones if you're near a Snitch, but keep in mind that this can also be an opportunity to gather Wasp Drivers for upgrades, provided you're ready to fight.
Wasp Driver: A Valuable Item
When defeated, Wasps drop a unique item known as the Wasp Driver. This item is used to upgrade the Gunsmith, which is crucial for improving your weapons. If you’re looking to buy Arc Raiders items, the Wasp Driver is an item worth keeping an eye out for. You’ll need several of them to enhance your arsenal, so it’s best to take down as many Wasps as possible.
Other Important Drops from Wasps

Wasp Driver
These materials can be invaluable for crafting and upgrading equipment, so don't overlook the importance of defeating Wasps as you progress through the game.
Mastering the Wasp
The Wasp may seem like a straightforward enemy at first, but understanding its behavior and weaknesses can make all the difference in your survival. By targeting its thrusters and avoiding its red laser, you can take down these drones efficiently. Keep an eye on your surroundings, as Wasps often patrol in swarms, and always be prepared for the possibility of additional Wasps showing up thanks to a Snitch.
By following these tips, you'll have a much easier time dealing with Wasps and reaping the rewards they drop, including the all-important Wasp Driver. Good luck out there, Raiders!
