Which ad formats actually work in PPC for casino?

I’ve been looking into different ways people run ads in the casino space, and one thing that always confuses me is which ad formats actually work best. When you read blogs or guides, everyone seems to have a different opinion. Some say banner ads are enough, others talk about push ads or native ads like they are the secret weapon.

So I figured I’d ask here and also share a bit of what I’ve personally noticed while experimenting with PPC for casino campaigns.

The main issue I kept running into was wasted budget. At first I thought running simple display banners would bring in players quickly. It seemed logical. Casino visuals are flashy and colorful, so banners should grab attention, right? Well, the reality was a bit different. I got impressions and clicks, but conversions were all over the place.

After that, I started trying other formats because a few people in forums kept mentioning that different traffic sources react better to different ad styles.

One format that surprised me was native ads. Instead of looking like a typical casino ad, they blend into content feeds. When I tested this approach, the traffic felt more engaged. People didn’t bounce as quickly and the click quality seemed better. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely felt more natural compared to aggressive banner placements.

Push notifications were another format I experimented with. These can work well for quick visibility, especially for promos or limited offers. The downside though is that some users ignore them quickly if they receive too many notifications. So I noticed they work better when the message is simple and the targeting is tight.

Then there are classic display banners. Even though my first test didn’t perform great, I wouldn’t completely rule them out. When I improved the visuals and simplified the message, performance started improving a bit. In my opinion, banners still work, but only if the design stands out and the landing page matches the ad message.

Something else I realized is that the ad format alone isn’t the whole story. Targeting, GEO, and even timing seem to affect results just as much. For example, a banner ad might perform poorly in one region but do fine somewhere else.
