Question for those with start-stop in their cars here
I finally gave in and got a new SUV last month, one of those Japanese models, and it's got the auto start-stop feature that cuts the engine when you're stationary. Honestly, in the beginning I found it a bit jarring, especially at the first few traffic lights I hit on Hessa Street. You're sitting there in the quiet and then it judders back to life. But I'm trying to keep an open mind because I know it's supposed to help with fuel, and honestly, every little bit helps with the prices these days. My morning commute involves a solid 20 minutes of crawling along from the Barsha Heights turn-off onto SZR, so the engine is cutting in and out constantly. I started reading up about it online to see if this constant stopping and starting puts too much strain on the battery or the starter motor, especially in our heat, and I came across a pretty helpful article that really breaks down how to discover start-stop technology benefits without wrecking your car's electrics. It explained that these systems use a different type of heavy-duty battery, which I had no idea about. Now I'm just wondering for the long-term owners out there, has anyone actually had any issues with theirs after a couple of years, or does it all hold up fine in the long run?
